Deep

Life flows shallow the way the world operates these days. Is there depth in your relationships? Are you satisfied to wade in the shallow water or are you willing to go deeper for meaning and purpose? I floated through more than 30 years of my life, letting currents carry me where they would. When I finally got a good grip on the brevity and banality of my life, almost half of it had already passed. Thankfully, most of what I lost is restored, like God restored the years the locusts ate away for the His people.

He does that through His grace, not relieving the consequence. I can’t bring back the lost years of relationship my behavior ate away. I can’t relive those years to make them happier or more productive. I have today to live fully committed to loving Jesus and those around me. That fills my days with His presence and purpose. It marks my future with hope. It redeems my past and moves me forward.

My prayer for you is that you come to understand how deep the Father’s love for you runs before all those years get away from you as they did from me. I pray you will let Him love you into His grace, peace and joy.

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.” (1 John 3:1 ESV)

And so we are.

Deep
It’s deep
It’s awesome,
This feeling that I get
When I sense you in the room.
It’s true
It’s fearsome.
This power that you have
To quickly chase away my gloom.
It’s real.
It’s freeing.
This love that you share
Bursts my dessert into bloom.

Abba, Daddy, to be of your household means everything to me. Sharing in your kingdom as part of your family forever stands foremost in my thoughts and forms my hopes and dreams. Loving you as you first loved me takes precedence over all my loves. Thank you for shaping my days to live according to your ways. Thank you for the times of quiet reverence we share when I feel your presence and sense your still voice over me. I love that you sing over me, and I so long for the day I can hear you singing it in person. Thank you for calling me by name to come out of my trials and darkness into your marvelous light. May I always walk within the circle of your will to glorify you. I pray in the in the name and authority of Jesus, according to your good and perfect will. Amen.
