Marriage is not in a good place in the US. Pew Research indicates that the number of cohabiting couples grew from 54% to 59% between 2002 and 2017. The same study shows that “Married adults have higher levels of relationship satisfaction and trust than those living with an unmarried partner.” (https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2019/11/06/marriage-and-cohabitation-in-the-u-s/) Proverbs 19:21 speaks of the many plans in a man’s heart, yet the counsel of the Lord will stand. Let’s look at God’s plan for marriage and family.
From the book:
“So, let’s talk. I mean, can we talk, heart-to-heart, openly and honestly?
I’m in that statistic of over 50% of the US once-married population who have lived through divorce. That gives me a voice of experience. Think of it, 50% means either your marriage will survive or it won’t. What can you do to push it over closer to the success side of the continuum? The object is not to peg the meter, only to hold onto a high probability your situation will prove worthy and set the example for the generation coming up. I’m talking about your kids. Funny, our choices affect our children before kids are ever in the picture. Indeed, they have profound effect on them. Once you are divorced, the chance of your second marriage succeeding is cut again, with over 60% of second marriages ending in divorce, and over 70% of third marriages. Yes, let’s definitely talk about staying out of the land of diminishing chance.” (Taylor, Joy S., Before You Kiss the Frog…Can We Talk?, Lily of the Valley Publishing Services, 2025, Indiana, p. 2.)
