I want to expand on the ‘unique, separate and whole’ concepts of Dr. Miles Monroe, but taking them one-at-a time in these posts. Though I am a twin, there is no other person exactly like me. There is no other person exactly like you, with your thought patterns, likes and dislikes, or personal history. That uniqueness is a treasure to cultivate and enjoy. Cherish the fact that you are different than others. You may not have some of their attributes, but they also don’t possess some of yours. Capitalize on your talents and gifts to set your own path to success. Please, don’t fall into the trap of being like everyone else to fit in. That is a detrimental comparison that needs to be avoided. I tried that route, and it turned into a field of chaos that was not me. Instead, I became a chameleon who changed my behavior to match whomever I was with. It was a slippery slope to personal fakery.
From the book:
“I was told about my uniqueness as a child. Weren’t you? I didn’t fully grasp it, though. It had little impact. The need for acceptance overshadowed the awareness of my difference. I thought I needed to do and say what others expected to be liked. I didn’t understand that being different is a likeable quality. It didn’t sink in that I could be respected for my differences and my strength to stand true to them. I thought it wasn’t okay to be myself. I stand corrected. I regret it took so many years to establish my uniqueness. I lost many years of applying my personal qualities toward making a difference. I’m here to tell you it is okay to be yourself. No, you must be yourself. Celebrate your uniqueness. There is a God-given purpose for your traits and talents. Develop them. They bring variety and interest.(Taylor, Joy S., Before You Kiss the Frog…Can We Talk?, Lily of the Valley Publishing Services, 2025, Indiana, pp. 9-10.)
