The Niños leadership in Union Missouri released a statement to the Missourian for an article posted July 16, 2025.
“On July 9th, Mexican authorities conducted an unannounced inspection of Niños de Mexico’s homes, after which all children were removed, and staff were asked to vacate the premises. We are deeply saddened and surprised by this action and are working diligently to understand the reasoning behind it. All homes complied with local standards, and we have not been made aware of any findings that would suggest immediate concern. To our knowledge, all children were being provided with safe, loving care, as well as access to necessary healthcare and education.” (Riley, Jonathan,’Union Charity’s Orphanages Raided in Mexico,’ The Missourian, July 16, 2025.)
I’m at a loss as to how the board members can be surprised by the outcome of this situation when the Executive Director had been confronted by Eric Miller and Olivia Cuevas more than a couple times about possible abuse at the homes. How could they not know when, as the article states,”The Missourian previously reported on allegations against Niños de Mexico in 2023. At that time, local resident and Niños de Mexico board member Phil Myers said the group had agreed to hire an outside organization to investigate the abuse allegations.” This effort to continue techniques to save the image of the ‘ministry’ and overlook the true circumstances of the victims. Seven alleged abusers and 25 reported victims and they are still trying to save face.
From the book:
Olivia Paola Cuevas posted about her attempts to get Mexican authorities to help on Facebook on February 14, 2023:
“It was submitted months ago to the Prosecutor’s Office of Rights of Edo. From Mexico, very valuable information hoping urgent measures will be taken to achieve the Superior Welfare of almost 100 children housed in the denounced institution established in the municipalities of Chicoloapan and Texcoco del Edo, Of Mexico. Without so far seeing any real protective measures for Children, Girls and Adolescents after at least 8 files of investigation into child sexual abuse and rape by guardians at that place. The comment we have received repeatedly from Prosecutor Cristel Yunuen Pozas Serrano, is ‘I have no other place where to put 100 children’ to what we have replied, ‘To what extent it will be justified to keep minors housed in an institution that shows multiple bad practices in the care for the same as well as a history of multiple sexual abuses and rapes over the decades?’” (Taylor, Joy S., Clergy Cover-up Does It Work?, Lily of the Valley Publishing Services, 2024, Indiana, p. 74.)
