The Facebook news feed is filled with posts on the happenings in Mexico with Niños de Mexico, now that five of the non-profit organizations homes for children have been raided and closed by Mexican authorities. You can read my compilation of the posts of the advocates who demanded the ministry bring in a third-party investigation after allegations of multiple sexual abuse incidents. The back story shows how hard it is to overcome cover-up techniques in order to help the victims/survivors. It took years of pressuring the board of directors and the donors to Niños. The investigation is still ongoing after a year as well.

“Paola gave her letter of resignation to the director in July 2022. Since that time, she has interacted with adults who aged out of the Niños homes who contend the abuse was not one case in 2015 as leadership stresses, but that testimonies of some who have left the homes establish possible cases as many as fifteen years ago. Cases filed in Mexico were as recent as 2021. Though questioned about her motives, Paola stated that she was not fired, nor was she vengeful against the organization. She supported her actions with the need for those who house vulnerable children to abide by the protection protocol she wrote up. She posits that since she created the document for Niños, she holds responsibility for its implementation. She advocates for the children as she has been for years. Her concern is that Niños may use her document to infer change without actually having implemented change.
