Denial is Not a River

Drops of Joy – A Devotional Journey of Healing — Update 9

DropsofJoyCover3 400x582

One of the definitions of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results to come about. Denial plays a role by mentally masking the truth of a situation. The idea that someone I loved was targeting my codependency as part of a game of control was so foreign to me that I couldn’t wrap my mind around the reality and the danger in my situation.

How many arguments does it take to remove the veil? How many bruises and scars does it take to write the facts? How many tears and disappointments does it take to pull back the curtain and expose the darkness behind it? Perhaps the difficulty of my past and God’s intervention can help lead you to a better understanding. Read. Pray. Heal.

From the book:

“Oh, brother, do I know about denial. In the devotion on ‘Defeated’ I spoke about the difficulties in my marriage, and how I did the same things over and over, expecting a different result would eventually come about. That is the insanity of denial. Denial exists in multiple forms and circumstances. We build it up like a wall around the issues that chip away at us, thinking it’s our defense mechanism. We don’t recognize that in building the walls, we block off our view of the truth.

“The obvious are those trapped in the lies of substance abuse, food addiction, or immoral choices. Those of us with codependent tendencies may find it harder to recognize what is going on. I don’t want to get into sound-bite psychology. I do want to shed light on what I learned from my personal struggles.” (Taylor, Joy S., Drops of Joy – A Devotional Journey of Healing, 2026, Lily of the Valley Publishing Services, Indiana, p.23.)

Come and join me on this journey of God’s healing. May a piece of my past lead you to a better future through God’s intervention. Read. Pray. Heal.

Joy S Taylor is a follower of Christ, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her workdays were spent using the Master of Science in Accounting degree that God graciously allowed at the age of, well, greater than 40. She led a divorce recovery support group sponsored by her church for seven years, and spent more than a decade in leadership roles for Celebrate Recovery and Care Net, using what God had done in her life to point others to the healing only Jesus gives. Now retired, she concentrates on writing for Jesus from her beloved hickory grove in Indiana, yet devotes some of her time to volunteering.
