Before You Kiss the Frog…Can We Talk? – 15

Kiss the frog cover

This chapter of the book begins the discussion of the 36 questions I created for the divorce recovery group I lead for seven years. Each new session of classes brought the questions of ‘how do I keep from making the same mistakes in a new relationship?’ Answering these questions carefully and introspectively about yourself and about a prospective new relationship can guide you past many pitfalls.

Some writers on relationships take the tact that they made all the right choices, it worked out perfectly for them, so you should follow their lead. It is not an invalid point. I come at the subject from the position of having made those mistakes in my own life, and experiencing the consequences. So, this is what I suggest from God’s plan to avoid the potholes of relationship building. Faith above all is paramount.

From the book:

“If I may return to the concept of being whole, complete, and unique, faith is where the rubber meets the road. It comes first because it carries the most weight in the areas of integrity, personality, and faithfulness. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and everything else will fall into its proper order (Matthew 6:33, my paraphrase), especially relationships.” (Taylor, Joy S., Before You Kiss the Frog…Can We Talk?, Lily of the Valley Publishing Services, 2025, Indiana, p.34.)

Joy S. Taylor is a follower of Christ, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her workdays were spent using the Master of Science in Accounting degree that God graciously allowed at the age of, well, greater than 40. She led a divorce recovery support group sponsored by her church for seven years, and spent more than a decade in leadership roles for Celebrate Recovery, using what God had done in her life to point others to the healing only Jesus gives. Now retired, she concentrates on writing for Jesus from her beloved hickory grove in Indiana, yet devotes some of her time to volunteering for Care Net.
