Is your church leadership transparent to the members? Do you know where your tithes and offerings go? Does leadership share the budgets for the year and seek approval for them? Are you aware of what transpires behind the scenes between the senior minister and the elders? Do your elders appear to be more of a buffer between you and the senior minister than they are servants to the body? How are you treated if you question what transpires? Are these red flags as to a church not functioning as the biblical model described in Scripture? I’m just asking.
“Obviously, the elders were deeply concerned about the circumstances surrounding the resignations of the two beloved student ministers, who had proven themselves to the church body. Why would any church not fight to retain such godly servants? Again, much happens behind the lights, guitars, and fog machines of which those of us in the pews are unaware. The elders’ power waned as the CEO-type positioning of the senior minister blossomed from the structural changes to the church business model.” (Taylor, Joy S, A View from the Pews — The Inside Story of a Broken Church, 2022, Lily of the Valley Publishing, Santa Claus IN, p.72.)
