Drops of Joy – A Devotional Journey of Healing — Update 12
Have you been gaslighted by someone until you question your own sanity? Have you been told something about yourself over and over that contradicts your personal perception of who you are?
It is a common tactic of an abuser to keep you off guard, wondering what is real. Don’t listen to the lies. Here is the poem from the devotion:
“Don’t Listen to the Lies
How long have I listened to the lies of the deceiver?
I do it, heaven knows even though I’m a believer.
He catches me at moments of doubt,
Capitalizing on my forgetting what I’m about.
He sneaks in through the cracks in my armor
To reach me, try to convince me I’m not who I am.
Cracks that grow wider the more I’m away from the Word.
The less I’m exposed to the Truth,
The easier for lies to break through.
“You aren’t worthy, you know.
There’s this one and this one and that who say so.”
‘You can’t succeed so why do you try?
Anything’s possible, humph, it’s a lie.’
‘You aren’t deserving. Nothing you could do
Would ever be good enough to be listened to.’
‘Besides, you’re not holy enough to last.
Just look at the troubles lined up in your past.’
Stop! Get behind me!
The Spirit testifies and is here to remind me
That I am a saved child of God, who
Holds my right hand in all that I do.
Remembering who I am and whose I am,
My past is forgiven, my future made new.
My weaknesses supplanted with strength from the One
Who set planets spinning and ignited the sun.” (Taylor, Joy S., Drops of Joy – A Devotional Journey of Healing, 2026, Lily of the Valley Publishing Services, Indiana, pp. 28-29)

Joy S Taylor is a follower of Christ, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her workdays were spent using the Master of Science in Accounting degree that God graciously allowed at the age of, well, greater than 40. She led a divorce recovery support group sponsored by her church for seven years, and spent more than a decade in leadership roles for Celebrate Recovery and Care Net, using what God had done in her life to point others to the healing only Jesus gives. Now retired, she concentrates on writing for Jesus from her beloved hickory grove in Indiana, yet devotes some of her time to volunteering.
