Lord, the vivid word picture of these two verses strikes me hard. “Ego eimi.” The religious leaders who thought themselves protected by the garrison of Roman soldiers had to recognize the sacred name of God coming in your reply, “I am.” Lord, I wonder how they felt to see the well-armed troops picking themselves up off the ground, too. Who can stand against your deity? Who can stand in the presence of your majesty? You are my Lord who commanded the situation with two words. I am in awe. I give you honor and reverence in your powerful name and authority, according to the good and perfect will of the Father. Amen.

“When Jesus said to them, ‘I am he,’ they drew back and fell to the ground. So he asked them again, ‘Whom do you seek?’” (John 18:6-7 ESV)
