Father God, I am growing to appreciate the intricacies of word usage by the writers of Scripture as breathed to them by the Holy Spirit. The subtle tense changes mean a lot. I have put off the old self, which is an action in the past. I have put on the new self through accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior. My new self is now in the process of continuous renewal as indicated by the use of the present perfect continuing tense. I have been renewed, but the Holy Spirit continually renews knowledge as I learn more about you. Father, never let me grow stagnant in my knowledge growth in the name and authority Jesus, according to your good and perfect will. Amen.

“Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” (Colossians 3:9-10 ESV)
