Father God, you are El Roi, the God who sees us. You know our needs before we can voice them. You hear our cries even though we disappoint you. You work continually for the greater good and for your glory. You did not abdicate your throne for Saul. You remained in control then, and you are in control now. You are the One True God from everlasting to everlasting, and we will stand before your courts. Forgive us where we fail you, Father. We long to be in your presence. Thank you for granting a glimpse of your glory through your Holy Spirit. We exalt you in the name and authority of Jesus, according to your good and perfect will. Amen.

“Now the day before Saul came, the Lord had revealed to Samuel: ‘Tomorrow about this time I will send to you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be prince over my people Israel. He shall save my people from the hand of the Philistines. For I have seen my people, because their cry has come to me.’” (1 Samuel 9: 15-16 ESV)
