The Colors of Love

Drops of Joy – A Devotional Journey of Healing — Update 19

Can you remember a time when you just knew your young relationship was made in heaven and would last forever? Were you considering all aspects of that relationship, or were you deep into the whirlwind of emotions and hormones? Were you able to back up a little from the impact and discern how the future would most likely turn out, based on logic and sound thinking?

I can remember, and I did not use discernment, logic or sound thinking. I rather think I was in love with the idea of being “in love.” The consequences were harsh, hurtful, and sometimes dangerous. If you have experienced what I’m describing, I am truly sorry you have gone through, or are going through, a rough patch. Be encouraged that God can turn ashes into beauty and create purpose out of bad choices.

From the book:

“Do you think that love comes in many colors? Is this a trick question? That may be so. As a Christian, I experience the purest of love from Jesus—that love from one who gave up His life for my sake. As a divorcee and one who struggles with codependency and the effects of abusive relationships, I also know various aspects of what I thought was love, but wasn’t.

“I know of the love of my parents and siblings who watched me, in hope I would find my way, and in frustration that I kept going back into an unhealthy situation, moving in and out of the abusive relationship. Yet, they remained true to their hope and showed it through willingness to hear amends and reconcile after years of standing by in helplessness. I know the constant love of my kids, who forgave me and support me in any way possible. I know the unconditional love of Jesus, who not only forgave me, but restored me and uses me to teach what I’ve learned through my bad judgment, bad choices, bad behavior, and bad times.

“God picked up the pieces, reshaped the picture, and put them back together magnificently. Life with Jesus rocks.” (Taylor, Joy S., Drops of Joy – A Devotional Journey of Healing, 2026, Lily of the Valley Publishing Services, Indiana, p. 46)

Joy S Taylor is a follower of Christ, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her workdays were spent using the Master of Science in Accounting degree that God graciously allowed at the age of, well, greater than 40. She led a divorce recovery support group sponsored by her church for seven years, and spent more than a decade in leadership roles for Celebrate Recovery and Care Net, using what God had done in her life to point others to the healing only Jesus gives. Now retired, she concentrates on writing for Jesus from her beloved hickory grove in Indiana, yet devotes some of her time to volunteering.
