I don’t know many who aren’t familiar with the Hillsong name. The organization is most likely known for their musical worship team and the Hillsong United music. It’s highly unfortunate that the church also faced the sexual abuse issue because of Pastor Frank Houston’s pedophilia in 1970 that his son, Brian, failed to report to authorities. Their story points out the responsibility of reporting. Frank Houston’s son did not report, but were there others who also carried the duty to report? What are your state regulations on reporting?

From the book:

“Brian’s father, Frank Houston, had been the pastor of another Australian church. Allegations against Frank emerged in 1999 that he had sexually abused a young boy in the 1970’s. Frank actually
confessed to the abuse before he died in 2004.The police investigation began their questioning, asking for institutional responses which led them to discover that Brian had allegedly known of his father’s pedophilia and didn’t report the activity to the police. Police charged Brian with failure to report helpful information the authorities believed he possessed about the alleged years of abuse. Once the smoke left the engine’s stack, other allegations surfaced as church officials delved into the possibility that Brian had violated church codes of conduct.
