After multiple continuances, the next court date in this case is in September, 2022. The wheels of the courts turn slowly. The outcome may require a second edition to tell the end of this tragic story. From my book:
“Six years have passed since the height of the storm at FCCF. Here are significant events that have taken place since.
• A St. Louis victim filed a personal injury lawsuit against Steve Wingfield and the church. ‘The new lawsuit similarly describes Seppelt’s attempt at the time to alert Wingfield to what he had seen in Joplin in 2011; the suit notes, “Neither Defendant Wingfield, nor FCCF personnel chose to report Milburn to Child Protective Services, fire him, or supervise him more closely following this incident.”’ (Danny Wicentowski, “Victim Sues St. Louis Church of Former Youth Minister Convicted of Sex Abuse,” Riverfront Times, October 28, 2021)
The motion for the hearing was filed on November 8, 2021, by the complainant’s attorney. A hearing is set for the end of April 2022. The complainant is asking for a jury trial. Could this be the end of the FCCF era as well? Perhaps this could be the end of the Wingfield family dynasty at FCCF. Like my reference to starting over after a divorce, perhaps this will be a chance to change the guard at FCCF, leading to a new beginning based soundly on the gospel.” (Taylor, Joy S., A View from the Pews — The Inside Story of a Broken Church, 2022, Lily of the Valley Publishing, Santa Claus IN, pp. 167, 169-170.)
