Lord, you did not promise a life of roses, but of trials and thorns. Yet, through this harsh reality comes the contrast of your joy. It is not like any other sense of happiness or well-being that comes from circumstance and the consciousness of man. Your joy comes from the center of our being where your Holy Spirit resides. Once we recognize that you are the true source of joy, we know the permanence that infers. May we always know the joy you left. May it lift us from doubt and despair. May it crown us and bring an upbeat rhythm to our going out and coming in. May we call up pure joy through the storms, through the illnesses, through the loss and threatening circumstances. May we be armed, ready to experience and share your joy that surpasses anything we can describe. I ask in your precious name, according to the good and perfect will of the Father. Amen.

“These things have I spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” (John 15:11 ESV)
